EM Basic is now on twitter

Just an announcement that you can now follow EM Basic on twitter- @embasic.  I’ll tweet when there is a new episode and if there is anything else that I find interesting on the EM interwebs.  Its not a personal twitter account so I won’t bog you down with the details of my life (does anybody else really need to know  that I’m going to get my car’s oil changed or that I dislike evening shifts?…didn’t think so).  So if you are a twitter fan, follow EM Basic on twitter for all the latest updates.

You stay classy, podcast listeners

Show notes completed

Hey everybody,

I finally got the time to catch up on all of the show notes.  Now all of the episodes (except the intro and podcast episode) have 2-3 page summaries.  You can find them added onto each blog entry or below in the master file.  Please drop me a line with any feedback and let me know if these are helpful.

The EM Basic Master File

Hey everybody,

Just an extra post to let you know that I just posted something that I hope some listeners find useful.  If you use iTunes you probably don’t have a problem downloading all of the old episodes to your mobile device.  However, if you download the podcasts from the website I know how much of a pain it is to download each old file individually if you have to go all the way back the beginning.  I should know, I had to do that before I got my iPhone only a few months ago.

To help with this, I’ve created a master file of all of the podcasts in one big Zip file.  So instead of having to go back to each post and download each podcast individually, you can do it all in one shot.  I’ve also made a master file for the show notes as well.

One warning- since the podcast file is so large (320 MB and counting), I had to use a free file hosting service.  The only downside is that you have to give them your email address and then they email you the link.  I’ve tried it and it works but you should probably give them your spam email address instead of your regular email address.  If I figure out a better option (or if anyone has any suggestions for this) I’ll let you know.

Dr. Rob Orman from ER Cast- Do Cardiac Risk Factors Matter?

MI and ACS

This is a topic podcast on myocardial infarction (MI) and Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). There is a lot more to managing ACS then just recgonizing who has tombstone ST elevations on their EKG and activating the cath lab. In this episode, we’ll go through the entire ACS spectrum from unstable angina, NSTEMI, and STEMI and how to keep it all straight. There’s also a bonus section on cardiac risk factors- how useful are they in diagnosing patients with ACS in the ED? The answer may surprise you.
